Bengal to Get Its Longest Flyover

Within 2 years, West Bengal is going to get its longest flyover, covering a distance of 7.5kms between Jinzira Bazar and Batanagar, over the Budge Budge Trunk Road. This area houses over 12 lakh peoples who are definitely going to find some comfort in the roads after the construction of this much needed flyover. The Bengal Urban Infrastructure Development Ltd is in charge of this flyover project which will be built on a PPP model. The L&T group of companies has made the highest bid and are going to be the private partner in this project.

Around Rs 255 crores will be spent on this project, the 35% of which has already been sanctioned under the JNNURM mission. The rest of the expenditure need to be taken care of by the private partner which implies that the state government need not invest in this project. According to Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, the private and public partners are most likely to sign a contract by next month. The private partners are convinced that they will be able to raise the amount of money they are investing in the project in the next 35 years through the toll tax that will be levied in the fly over.
