Midnapore College Receives The Autonomous Status from UGC

The Midnapore College, established in 1873 and affiliated to the Vidyasagar University since 1985, received the autonomous status from the University Grants Commission. This is going to be the fourth college to receive autonomy after St Xavier’s College, RKM Narendrapur and RKM Belur.

The implication is that, after the approval of this autonomy, the college will be able to set its separate syllabus and manage its examinations independently. The college will also publish the results without working on the basis of the University’s directions. These major changes will be effective from the 2014-15 academic session which is going to commence after a few months. However, the marksheets will be published only after the approval of the Vidyasagar University.

The University Grants Commission has carried out a survey long back to determine the potential of the Midnapore College and sent their approval to the state government this week. It is undeniable that this approval will work in favour of the performance of the college. The college unlike other institutions can now conduct examinations and publish results at the scheduled time without any undesirable delay which is generally caused because of the mismanagement of the University.
