NTPC to Build 1320 MW Power Plant in Katwa

NTPC is going to construct a new thermal power plant in Katwa. The construction of this 1320 MW power plant will start within a few months. Two power plants, each of 660 MW will be constructed over an area of 557 acres. The corporation is waiting for the approval of this project from the board. NTPC chairman, Mr. Arup Roychowdhury met West Bengal’s Power Minister Manish Gupta and stated that he is pretty sure regarding the approval of this project by the month of February or March.

The coal linkage was one of the major hindrances as far as the construction of this power plant was concerned. The coal ministry has not yet allocated the resources which the NTPC planned to use in this power plant. The West Bengal government will however put a proposal in front of the cabinet to allocate these resources as soon as possible and thus help in the immediate construction and working of this power plant. Apart from the 557 acres of land needed for the construction of this plant, another 150 acres of land will be needed for the creation of an ash pond. This land is now arranged by the state government and after getting the approval of the land owners, the NTPC is convinced that they are not going to face any problem in this matter.
